 Entre Agosto y Octubre del año 2003 se efectuó el rescate de varias decenas de Asháninkas en el valle del Ene que estaban en poder de los remanentes de los terroristas de Sendero Luminoso desde los fatídicos años 90. Las ceremonias oficiales de entrega de las donaciones se realizaron en Puerto Ocopa, capital del Distrito de Río Tambo. Este distrito es donde la mayor parte de la población Asháninka radica ancestralmente.
Between August and October 2003 several dozen Ashaninka natives were rescued from the remnants of the terrorist group of Shining Path that are still operating around the Ene and Apurímac rivers. The presentation of the donations by government officials was carried out in Puerto Ocopa, the capital of the District of Río Tambo. This district is where most of the Ashaninka population has its ancestral territory.
